Numb
Not a great place to be
Numb
Wrapped in bubble wrap
Attempting to avoid the pain
Numb
An anesthetic that flows through one’s veins
Yet, this protection comes at a price
Deaden the emotions, try not to feel
Pain is avoided but so too are joy,
bliss, happiness, awe, wonder
All blanketed in the soft swirling fog
Pain is held at bay, at arm’s length
Thinking that one’s strength is dependent
on the anesthetic of numbness
But it steals one’s ability to love fully,
laugh joyously,
live courageously
Numb
Hits home. It’s a natural defense. Self-preservation. But it comes with a cost. At least we know we’re not alone in such feelings 🙂

Yes, unfortunately most people have to contend with trials of one kind or another. I find it helps me to write it OUT. 🙂

Yep. I relate. Numb is actually horrible but necessary sometimes.

Exactly – it does provide a buffer until we are ready to deal…

Yes, being numb protects from pain but the joy is also suppressed.

Feeling that right now as I process a betrayal. Not a nice place to be. 😕
Thanks for your words. 🙏

Numb is a nifty little tool that can trick us into believing we’re OK. When we’re not. Sometimes the relief of “numb” is necessary, but buyer beware! It’s only a useful place to visit, not a great place to take up residence, because as you so perfectly put it, it shuts off ALL our feeling, even the good stuff.

Thank you Celenia. I would prefer not to visit this place, but as you say, sometimes “numb” is necessary.

Love the knowledge that when we attempt to avoid pain, we may unwittingly miss out on joy! ❤️🦋🌀
