Blogger Recognition Award

Sometimes people surprise me in the nicest ways. I write my blog to express ideas and opinions that just refuse to stay inside me. I never really thought much about what other people would think of it. I just wrote. Sometimes, it is out of a need to express sorrow that is knocking me to my knees. At other times sheer joy bubbles up and overflows. Sometimes I am fortunate enough to capture an image that I just HAVE TO share. I consider myself rather ordinary – a very average woman doing her best to live life in ways that inflict as little harm as possible. So, it was a surprise when I was nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award  by Dr. Tanya over at

Thank you so much, Dr. Tanya. I am truly honored and humbled.

Dr. Tanya writes on a wide variety of topics and her blog will delight you, be sure to check it out.

  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Nominate 10-15 other bloggers for this award, and inform them of their nomination.

Humble beginnings

My blog began as part of the journalism program I was studying at the time. My instructor felt it would be a good experience for us. (It’s been fantastic) After graduating the program I went on to earn my Bachelor’s Degree. Life became very hectic and busy and my little blog fell into disuse. Then, three years ago, the city where I live was evacuated due to several wildfires that encircled the region. While ensconced in a small town far from home and with every aspect of life up in the air I turned back to my blog as a place to express the many mixed emotions that were tumbling around in my noggin. My blogging community have become my friends in many ways. I have found support, comradeship, and like-minded people from all over the globe. I am grateful for all the blessings this blog has afforded me as well as the opportunities to keep on learning. It has been three years since fires forced me from my home and back to my blog. I have no plans of ever giving it up again!

For what it’s worth here are my two cents worth of advice:

  1. Write from your own experiences and opinions, don’t try to follow someone else’s formula or program. (And you can ignore this too, if you like formulas and programs)
  2. If you want people to read your blog and if you want comments then you have to develop relationships with other bloggers – we’re a caring lot (at least, that’s been my personal experience). It’s a great place to bounce ideas off other writers or creative souls.

I am nominating the following wonderful and wise bloggers. Check them out, you will be glad you did. (You really, really will)

Sunshine Bloggers Award

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given by bloggers to other bloggers whom they feel display positivity, creativity, and sunshine via their blog. I am so very touched and honored to be nominated by Mrs. Wayfarer over at Living Free and Making a Difference

She posed the following questions for me to answer:

Where do you find the inspiration to write your blogs?

My inspiration comes from my lived experiences. Sometimes it may be the way the light shines on a leaf, or the kindness of complete strangers. There is no one single answer to this. I try to be positive. I try to be open to the blessings of each day. And I try my best to capture this inspiration so I can share it with others.

  • When was the last thing you’ve done something for the first time?

Life is always throwing adventures my way. I guess the last time was the air ambulance flight to the big city so my hubby could receive the health care he needed. I had never been in an air plane with all the machinery and health aids necessary to preserve life. The attendants were awesome and so very kind.

  • If you were a superhero, who would you be?

Oh, this is a hard one. I had to go to my husband for help with this one. He said Wonder woman because I’m very big on the truth.

  • What is one simple thing (or person, place, event) that never fails to brighten up your day?

My cat brightens my days, as well as my family (of course). There is just something about the unconditional love of a pet and the trust in their eyes that just makes me melt.

  • What tradition in your family or country do you always look forward to?

Oh, there are so many, but I guess getting together with family at Christmas would top the list.

  • What blog (and whose blog is it) inspired you to take action?

I actually started my blog while I was studying journalism some years ago and it was part of the program. I let it lapse afterward but the wildfires that forced the evacuation of my city gave me much food for thought and inspired me to pick it back up.

  • What is your favorite TV show?

I do not watch much t.v. but I do enjoy This is Us.

  • What movie can you watch over and over again and make you feel the same way every single time?

Beaches with Bette Midler

  • What is your favorite holiday destination?

Anywhere I can sit on a beach and watch the ocean

  • When was the last time you laughed so hard you had tears in your eyes?

This happens fairly often – it’s easy to make me laugh. My cat does it with her antics. When – probably yesterday.

  • If you had the power to change anything in the world right now, what would it be?

Climate change because it is causing so much devastation in all parts of the globe. And because that is what is uppermost in my mind of late.
