Sometimes people surprise me in the nicest ways. I write my blog to express ideas and opinions that just refuse to stay inside me. I never really thought much about what other people would think of it. I just wrote. Sometimes, it is out of a need to express sorrow that is knocking me to my knees. At other times sheer joy bubbles up and overflows. Sometimes I am fortunate enough to capture an image that I just HAVE TO share. I consider myself rather ordinary – a very average woman doing her best to live life in ways that inflict as little harm as possible. So, it was a surprise when I was nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award  by Dr. Tanya over at

Humble beginnings

My blog began as part of the journalism program I was studying at the time. My instructor felt it would be a good experience for us. (It’s been fantastic) After graduating the program I went on to earn my Bachelor’s Degree. Life became very hectic and busy and my little blog fell into disuse. Then, three years ago, the city where I live was evacuated due to several wildfires that encircled the region. While ensconced in a small town far from home and with every aspect of life up in the air I turned back to my blog as a place to express the many mixed emotions that were tumbling around in my noggin. My blogging community have become my friends in many ways. I have found support, comradeship, and like-minded people from all over the globe. I am grateful for all the blessings this blog has afforded me as well as the opportunities to keep on learning. It has been three years since fires forced me from my home and back to my blog. I have no plans of ever giving it up again!

For what it’s worth here are my two cents worth of advice:

  1. Write from your own experiences and opinions, don’t try to follow someone else’s formula or program. (And you can ignore this too, if you like formulas and programs)
  2. If you want people to read your blog and if you want comments then you have to develop relationships with other bloggers – we’re a caring lot (at least, that’s been my personal experience). It’s a great place to bounce ideas off other writers or creative souls.

I am nominating the following wonderful and wise bloggers. Check them out, you will be glad you did. (You really, really will)
