It is risky to be a homosexual human being in Nigeria, and in fact, in many nations of the world. Discrimination takes many forms and in many countries can lead to the individual being ostracized at the very least or can lead to imprisonment or even death.

According to IRIN – a United Nations news service – the government of Nigeria is considering a new version of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill. The bill not only bans same sex marriage but also makes the formation of gay support groups illegal.

You won’t have to be gay to bring the powers that be down on you in Nigeria – you need only speak out in support of accused individuals to warrant being targeted with imprisonment or worse, if the bill passes.

There is every indication the bill will be passed according to IRIN news.
